Gigantor

Gigantor was a manga at first, when it was launched in 1958. Five years later, in 1963, it was made an animated cartoon in 1963, the first big robot cartoon series.

In 2005, a new Gigantor movie was made in Japan with a newer generation of graphics. Another name for Gigantor is Iron Man.

The original series had 83 episodes, aired between 1963 to 1965. The two main characters of the series are Jimmy and Gigantor. Jimmy is a kid that fights crime around the world in the year 2000 with the help of his robot, which is very strong but has no intelligence. He is controlled by a remote control, and whoever has the remote, controls Gigantor.

In the 60’s this manga was quite popular and it was exported in countries like US and Australia.

Based on Gigantor, the Iron Man series was released in the 80’s, with 51 episodes being aired. Another series was announced recently, that will be called Gigantor for the New Millennium. However in this one, he will no longer be a mindless machine, but a mix between a cyborg and a robot.
