Hong Kong Phooey Hong Kong Phooey is actually Penrod Pooch, Penry, the mild-mannered janitor (often mistaken as Henry) at the local police station. It's here he works with Sergeant Flint (Sarge) and Rosemary, the telephone operator. There were 16 episodes (31 tales in all) from Hanna-Babera that ran from September 1974 until September 1976. The most famous lines are... "Who is this super hero? Sarge? ...No. Rosemary, the telephone operator? ...No. Penry, the mild-mannered janitor? ...Could be!" Hong Kong Phooey was one of my favorite TV heroes as I grew up and yet the real hero was Spot the police cat. He'd always end up solving the crime...but Hong Kong Phooey would never know. Hong Kong Phooey uses his Phooeymobile and whenever he bangs the magic gong he can turn the vehicle into anything he needs at the time.
